If your child passed away after birth

For Maternity Leave, Maternity Benefit, Paternity Leave and Paternity Benefit

You may be eligible for Government-Paid Maternity Leave or Paternity Leave (or Government-Paid Maternity Benefit or Paternity Benefit) if you meet the prevailing eligibility criteria.

For Shared Parental Leave and Shared Parental Leave Benefit

If your child passes away, you will no longer be eligible for any unused portion of Shared Parental Leave or Shared Parental Leave Benefit as they are meant to support caregiving and bonding with your child.

If you need more time away from work, you are encouraged to speak with your employer about compassionate leave or use your annual leave entitlements.

For Childcare and Extended Childcare Leave

With effect from the date of the child’s passing, you will no longer be eligible for Government-Paid Childcare and Extended Childcare Leave.
